Body Language - Firm Handshake

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

Elevating Your Professional Image is important for you and me.

"It helps you to make a good first impression and is the bridge to building rapport with colleagues and clients."

TO BE successful at work, you have to look the part, and you can get help to do this. Professional Image Management involves three important areas: creating a good FIRST IMPRESSION, understanding BODY LANGUAGE and incul-cating positive PERSONAL GROOMING HABITS.

Let talk about Body Language (Firm Handsake) - 02 May'12

Firm Handshake
A firm handshake is one of the great ways for create instant rapport. Familiarise yourself with the following handshakes, as it will help you in your relationship-building activities:

* The 'take charge' manoeuvre: A person extends his hand to you, web-to-web, and when your hands are linked, he immediately moves his hand on top of your hands. The person is sending a message that he wants to be in charge.

The dead fish: This handshake - limp and wet - is extremely unpleasant for the receiver. There are two reasons why your hands are wet - either you are nervous or have been holding a cold drink. If you get sweat palms when you feel anxious, carry a handkerchief or a napkin and wipe your hands before you offer a handshake.

* The finger -tip grab: This type of handshake usually means that the person who does the grab is lacking confidence. This could also happen when two people are standing far from each other.

A good handshake involves holding the person's hand firmly; shaking hands web-to-web, three times at the most; maintaining constant eye contact; and radiating a positive aura.
